Daily 5  -  "Good Fit Books"

What is a "good fit book"?  A "good fit book" asks three main questions to help a child select a book for their reading. These questions and answers are:

             1. Do I like it?
The book is something that interests me.
             2. Does it fit?
The book is not too hard or too easy.
             3. Does it help me?
The book is the right book for what I want to do.

To help anyone improve upon their reading skills a "good fit book" is a must. Yes, children want to read what their friend is reading or what is "popular" at the moment, BUT, if it is not a "good fit book" the child will feel successful with reading.

I teach my students about a "good fit book" and then help them choose a "good fit book". I do look at three ways of testing my students to help find their reading level. With that information then the "good  fit book" process begins. It is very important for the student to have a book that interests them or they will not read. The same goes for the book being to hard or too easy.

Even as an adult, we want a "good fit book".

Please help your child to be successful in reading by reading "good fit" books.
